| Hello from Chesterbuilt Kennels, I’m Joe Byron and I love Pit Bulldogs and this is my story. While airbrushing at a large flea market in southern Ohio, Ceaser’s Creek near Dayton I was set up close to a biker who traveled in his converted short bus with 4 kids, a wife and a very angry and protective white pit bull who had 10 pups. I of course wanted one but did not know if I wanted the responsibility while traveling in my large converted bus and concession trailer so I did not buy one that weekend but when I got back to the campground I was staying out all I thought about was that little cute pup with the black spot on his eye and I could not wait to get back to the market to buy the little pup if he still had him. Luckly he did and I got a new friend, I named him Petey and he was my best friend for the next 8 years. He was an awesome dog and could do anything, he pulled me on a bike or scateboard and protected me in many ways. He would dive underwater and retrieve rocks, eat fireworks and tricks galore too many to name. He got cancer in 1995 and I did the radiation treatment but he did not make it through, it was rough but I had been breeding him since he was an adult and I had several pups and I still have his bloodlines today and will always keep them, old school colby dog. I was the only pit bull kennel in my home town of Crossville TN for many years and usually sell over one hundred dogs a year. Most of my dogs run free but some of my males are in large kennels to prevent any problems. I do all my own innoculations and wormings and offer my dogs at a very fair price, I know what a papered dog goes for and would rather sell my so anyone can afford them, one of my main goals with pit bulls is to change the mind of people that they are great dogs and not all killers. Now I would like to share my secrets, the food I recommend for pits is Diamond High Energy, it is sold at most feed stores and is not high priced and really does a pit good, it has high protein and high fat that is good for their skin and coat. The wormer I recommend is Strogid-T which I get from my local vet, Best Friends in Crossville. A 20 dollar bottle last a long time and I have had no problems with it, it is good stuff. I don’t recommend the large oily pills most CoOps sell, I have heard bad things about those pills. I also do not recommend any dog shots from CoOp, I have lost a whole litter from using those shots, get your shots from my store online, www.valleyvet.com or from a vet, make sure they stay cool in the fridge or a cooler at all times, do not let them warm up as this will make them dangerous to your pet. Start innoculating your dog at 6 to 8 weeks old, then every 2 to 4 weeks after till dog is 12 weeks old, just make sure you give your last shot to your pet after it is over 12 weeks old and then innoculate at least once a year or twice, dogs need worming starting at two weeks old, and every two weeks after that till the are 12 weeks old and then twice a year. Dogs also need rabies at 6 months to a year old and every 3 to 5 years after that depending on the rabies shot you use, a vet has to do this and without a vet degree you can’t buy rabies shots. There is also a good product sold at farm stores like Tractor Supply that is great for young pups and even older dogs, Milk Replacer, it is for any young animal that the mother has stopped feeding, is is a powder that is mixed with warm water and we put it over diamond high evergy to give our pups a warm soft food, we start feeding our pups this recipe at three weeks and by the time they are 6 weeks when we start selling our pups they are ready to eat good and be a great friend. |
